SHOP BY ERA The Depressed 1930’s
The 1930's was a time of depression, the Great Depression. Strange really, when it is a decade associated with fashions thought of as glamorous and sensuous. This is the era of the big bands, dancing and night life. Hats for both men and women were popular for both day and evening wear. Dresses were often cut of the bias to allow a smoother drape of the fabric. Women wore long halter topped dresses, lace frocks, negligees, and corsets. Men still wore suits (often Gangster pin striped) with a matching top hat and over coats. The 1930’s brought about a distinct difference between day and evening wear.
