Elsie Whiteley 1960s Top

This fabulous Elsie Whiteley top is back fastening with buttons. This top has a beautiful sheen to it due to being made from Tricel which adds to the vintage appeal. It is almost psychadelic in design in pink, purple, blue and green. With short sleeves and a boat style collar it epitomises the era. The top has waist and bust darts for fit.

Elsie was born in 1903 in Halifax and is regarded as a pioneering fashion designer and textile entrepreneur. She strated working in the local Mill at 12 while still at school. At the time of the Depression (1929) Elsie began her own dressmaking business from home. This went so well that she was soon running a local factory. After launching her own label she became known for ladies tops. The label had a premises on Regent Street as well as selling from John Lewis and Selfridges. Elsie worked until her death in 1972.
